Emotional Support (ESA) LETTERS

Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Letter Policy

At  Liv'n With a Purpose, we understand the significant impact Emotional  Support Animals (ESAs) can have on the mental health and well-being of  individuals. As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive mental  health care, we offer ESA letters to qualified individuals who meet our  criteria.

Criteria for ESA Letter Eligibility:

  1. Current Client Status: ESA letters will only be provided to individuals who are current clients of Liv'n With a Purpose.
  2. Minimum Duration of Therapy: Clients must have been actively engaged in therapy with Liv'n With a Purpose for a minimum of three months.
  3. Frequency of Sessions: Clients should have attended therapy sessions regularly, with a  frequency of at least 1-2 sessions per week during the three-month  period.
  4. Demonstrated Need: During therapy sessions, clients must have demonstrated how the  presence of an animal supports their emotional well-being and assists in  managing their mental health condition.
  5. Clinician Involvement: Your therapist must observe, during your video visits, how the animal is supporting you.

Process for Obtaining an ESA Letter:

  1. Initial Assessment: Clients who believe they may benefit from an ESA are encouraged to  discuss their needs with their therapist during their sessions.
  2. Assessment Period:  Following the initial discussion, clients will be observed and assessed  during subsequent therapy sessions to evaluate the impact of an animal  on their mental health.
  3. Documentation: If, after the assessment period, it is determined that an ESA would be  beneficial for the client's emotional well-being, their therapist will  document their observations and recommendations in the client's file.
  4. Issuance of ESA Letter: Upon meeting the eligibility criteria and receiving a recommendation  from their therapist, clients may request an ESA letter from Liv'n With a  Purpose.

Important Note:

ESA  letters provided by Liv'n With a Purpose are intended solely for the  purpose of supporting the emotional well-being of our clients. These  letters do not grant individuals the same rights or privileges as  service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Liv'n  With a Purpose does not provide ESA letters for the purpose of travel  or hotel accommodations. Clients seeking documentation for such purposes  should consult with a licensed mental health professional who  specializes in providing ESA assessments for travel or  accommodation-related needs.

All  ESA letters issued by Liv'n With a Purpose will have an expiration  date. These letters will be sent directly to the housing or apartment  complex management or leasing offices upon request. Liv'n With a Purpose  does not provide ESA letters directly to clients.

Clients  seeking renewal of their ESA letters must schedule a follow-up  assessment with their therapist to determine ongoing need and  eligibility.

Liv'n  With a Purpose reserves the right to decline or revoke an ESA letter if  it is determined that the client no longer meets the eligibility  criteria or if there is evidence of misuse or misrepresentation

INSURANCE EAP PLANS:  EAP services cannot be used to access or start documentation for Emotional Support Animals (ESA), FMLA, Short Term Disability (STD) or  Long Term Disability (LTD) eligibility determination.
